Today I want to introduce you "avesu", an amazing online store for vegan, fair and sustainably made shoes, bags, belts and more.
About avesu
While avesu has a small physical shop in Berlin, there are much more options available at their online shop. And the best: they ship to EU countries as well as the following non-EU countries: Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Russian Federation, USA. (Check out the links down below)
Avesu was found in 2010 in Berlin. The inspiration was to make it easier for vegans to find cruelty-free clothing which probably was a huge hassle back then, even more so than today, right? Avesu offers products by sustainable brands from different countries, especially shoes. And they have any kind of shoe you could ever wish for: sneakers, sandals, heels, boots, hiking boots, business shoes and more! There really is something for every occasion. And most importantly: they look stunning! Nonne would ever guess by the look that the shoes are fair-fashion. Instead they look like high-quality, stylish products. Everything is great quality so that you can wear your favorite shoes for years and years to come. How mentioned above, everything is 100% vegan, fair and sustainable.
In order to guarantee fair working conditions for the fabric workers outside of the EU, employees from avesu not only check certificates but regular visit the factories themselves to see the working conditions with there own eyes, which I find very important. They inspect if there are enough safety measures in place, if the hygiene is on point and if there are sufficient breaks and wages.
But avesu doesn’t stop there. They are also conscious about their CO2 footprint! Therefore avesu always utilizes the most sustainable shipping option available and the remaining CO2 footprint gets compensated through the project „I pant a tree“. Furthermore, the packaging of shoes sold in the stores gets recycled by using it as filling for the packages sent through the online store.
For you to be able to wear your shoes as long as possible, you can find tips for how to take great care of them on the website and you can also find vegan cleaning and protection products both in the physical and in the online shop.
My Experience with Avesu
I personally bought two pairs of shoes in the online shop and I adore them!
The first one is a vegan Dr. Martens made from vegan leather. It looks quite chic and goes very well with many of my outfits. They are a good example for that fair, vegan shoes can look very stylish. The only downside is that the back part is quite stiff and rubs on my heels every time I wear them. However, I noticed the more often I wear them the better it gets.
The second pair are the pettiest winter boots I ever had and they are very warm as well. I even got asked by a classmate where I got them, so that proves how great they look. They are from a collaboration between avesu and the brand Nae. I had to add inlays though because the bottom was a bit hard. Besides that they are very comfortable and fit well. I will cherish them for many years.
The shipping was quick, it took only a few days. However, for international orders it could take much longer. Be sure to check the shipping time and costs on the website.
I also went to their Berlin store when I was in town. I think going there is great if you are unsure about your size but since the shop is tiny, I recommend ordering online because there are so much more options.
By the way, if you want to find out about my stay in Berlin and vegan food options I recommend there, check out this post.
One amazing brand for sustainable, fair and vegan hand bags I found through avesu is Matt & Nat, which I am going to introduce in my next post! So, stay tuned!
