Vegan Gyoza is a gem hidden in a side alley between Asakusa and Ueno and a must-visit place for all gyoza lovers! Their eleven flavors come in all different colors, which not only looks super cute, they also taste amazing! If you’re not into gyoza, try one of their original lattes! The best: everything is completely vegan!
About Vegan Gyoza
Vegan gyoza is a stylish, 100% vegan café in Taito that opened in 2021 and has one of the highest rankings on the Happy Cow app. You can choose between 11 flavors of gyoza - or get them all - and even enjoy unique lattes like matcha caramel latte or or cream soda! Because of the vibrant colors, the foods and drinks are perfect for your instagram feed, too!
Not only is the interior wooden and inviting, the cafe has a large terrace as well. Because it is enflamed by a plastic curtain, it’s possible to sit outside even in the cold winter as well as in summer, as there is a fan on the ceiling keeping you from getting too hot.
The staff is very friendly, too and can speak English. The menu comes in both Japanese and English.
About the food
As Vegan Gyoza is specializing in gyoza, it is actually the only food option. But, as it comes in 11 different flavors, you won’t be bored! Each comes in a different color, so it is easy to keep track of which one your are eating. Flavors are:
By the way, the cafe uses natural food coloring like turmeric or beetroot instead of artificial ones, so there is no need to worry about that!
The minimum amount of gyoza you need to order is 5 pieces.
You can choose between fried or steamed. If it is your first time, I recommend getting the set that includes all flavors. This way, you can try all of them and find out which ones are your favorite and you actually save some money as well. However, if there is a flavor you know you won’t like, you can have it switched out! For example, I personally don’t like mushrooms, so I replaced the two shiitake ones with other flavors. Just ask the staff about it.
All gyozas are filled with soy meat and the respective veggies stated on the menu. They are extremely flavorful and juicy, therefore you don’t need a dipping sauce! (They also do not serve any dipping sauces there).
Each piece of gyoza is quite large compared to gyoza at other restaurants. If you are unable to finish everything, you can ask the staff to wrap it up for take out.
If you would like to enjoy the gyoza at home, you can buy frozen ones there, too! In case you don’t live nearby, it is possible to order it online or even get it at some selected other shops.

My personal favorites are kimchi gyoza, garlic miso gyoza and chives gyoza!
They also offer scones:
About the drinks
I absolutely love their original drinks as well! You can get choose almond milk, soy milk or oat milk as a base and most of them you can have hot or cold.
You can choose your coffee latte and matcha latte either regular or with cream, and even get caramel or chocolate shots! They also have strawberry matcha, ginger latte and cream sodas. If you are not so adventurous, you can get an americano or teas as well. I love that they have caffein-free options, which is perfect when going there in the evening.
I tried two of their drinks:
Caramel matcha latte
This was literally the best latte I ever had in my life! It came with rich soy cream and sweet caramel sirup! The sweetness of the sirup balanced out the bitterness of the match perfectly and the texture of the drink was just divine! Definitely a 10/10!
Strawberry soda
The strawberry soda had a beautiful red color and really tasted like strawberry! It came with a light soy cream which created an interesting combo! In my opinion this is a perfect sweet treat for a hot summer day!
All in all, this is a spot you definitely shouldn’t miss in Tokyo, regardless of if you are vegan or not!
