Updated: Nov 7

If you want to eat delicious, traditional Japanese sweets, you HAVE to check out NO OHAGI in Daikanyama! It is a small café specializing in ohagi, Japanese sweets traditionally made from rice and red bean paste. They also have delicious shakes with kuzu mochi! The special thing about no ohagi is that everything is 100% gluten-free, vegan and made from natural ingredients!

About NO OHAHI

NO OHAGI was opened in April 2024. It is a small but stylish café about 10 minutes by food from Daikanyama station. They sell ohagi and kuzu mochi shakes, as well as shaved ice (during summer).

You can do take-out or eat in. There are only three counter seats, but the cafés atmoshphere is really nice and the interior is perfect for taking cute pictures of the food, as the stone furniture and the plants in the store make a nice background!

The staff is super friendly and even remembered me when I came the second time. She seemed to remember other customers as well.

Everything there is gluten-free, additive-free, free of white sugar, dairy-free and egg-free. Instead of cows milk they use  soy milk. Therefore, this café is suitabel for people with allergies, vegans or people who want to enjoy healhtyish treats.

They offer a variety of different ohagi, one looking more delicious and prettier than the other! It was really difficult to decide which one to get. The staff then adviced me to try one of the traditonal ohagi and one that only comes out on rainy days.

About the food

different kinds of ohagi placed in wooden boxes

The first time, I tried two different ohagi as well as the kuzu mochi shake. The shaved ice looked stunning as well, but since my stomache was already full, I came back another time to try it.

Kuzu mochi shake

I absolutely love milk shakes, so I  had to try the kuzu mochi shake and what can I say: it was suberp! The shake was soy milk based and had tiny pieces of kuzu mochi inside which changed texture over time. At first, they were quite soft. Because of the shake was iced though, they became a bit harder after a few minutes, through which I could enjoy a variety of textures. The shake was extremely creamy and not too sweet. In short: I loved it!

ohagi with tsubu an

Of course I also had to eat their ohagi. I first wanted to try their basic ones with just anko, so that I can compare it to ohagi I tried at different shops before. There are two different ones: koshi an and tsubu an. I chose the one with tsubu an. The ohagi was chewy and the anko was not too sweet. It was very delicous!

The ame no hagi only comes out on rainy days and was amazing, too! It had small walnut pieces and sesame in the anko and a mild sweetnes. I really enjoyed the combination! This ohagi really sweetenes any rainy Tokyo day.

Shaved ice

There are 2 kinds of shaved ice and I chose the Uji matcha one. The shaved ice was quite large and definitely the best one I ever ate!! It was made from soy milk and came with lots of matcha syrup, anko on top and inside and, the best thing: It was tooped with a sweet condensed milk made from soy milk! It is very rare to see shaved ice with vegan condensed milk! Also, every single part of it was completely hand made, including the syrup and condensed milk!

Unfortunately they probably already stopped selling it after September.
