Amazing Specialty Coffee in Munich | Man vs Machine

If you are a coffee lover and want to try the best coffee Munich has to offer, Man vs Machine is the coffee shop to go! They have their own roastery and serve high quality coffee only.

About Man vs Machine

Man vs Machine is an independent specialty coffee roaster founded in 2014. According to the official website, they roast the highest grade of Arabica Coffee only and prioritize quality over growth. They have two coffee shops in Munich plus a roastery. While you can of course enjoy their coffee there, if you´d like to drink it at home as well, it is possible to buy beans in the cafe or order them online.

What surprised me was that the coffee is also served in some Michelin starred restaurants, the ORY Bar of the Mandarin oriental and more places in several countries.

When going into the cafe in Schellingstraße, what will immediately catch your eye is the stylish wallpaper. It is full of cute small doodles. Especially often you can find the store´s characteristic crocodile. Why not see what else you can find on it while waiting for your coffee?

The furniture is pretty cool, too. I really love the atmosphere.

Exactly because of the unique style Man vs Mache was featured in several magazines and websites, for example Monocle Magazine, Monocle Travel Guide, Elle Decoration, vogue.com, Lonely Planet’s guide to the worlds best coffee places, National Geographic, SZ, DieWelt, Architectural Digest etc.

It is also possible to book barista classes, home brewing classes and latte art classes which I personally find really cool and might wanna try out in the future.

Lastly, this café was also the first one to offer Franzbrötchen in Munich.

The menu includes lots of different kinds of coffee of course and matcha latte, golden milk, hot chocolate, tonic drinks and tea. For a vegan option oat milk is available for an additional 30 cents. And they have vegan banana bread, yum!

By the way, the website empathizes that "man" in the name means "human", not only male people.

My Experience

Americano 3,30€

This was the first black coffee I ever enjoyed! Usually I can't drink it because it often is too bitter or sour. But here, just as they advertise it the coffee is not bitter at all, not even slightly. It was a bit sour but just a tiny bit, so not bad at all.

Cappuccino (with oat milk) 3,90€

This cappuccino had a strong coffee taste which I found a bit unusual but very tasty! The after-taste is slightly sour but not really sour. Not sure how to describe it. There is no bitterness at all which I love! And usually I am not a fan of oat milk in my coffee at all but this one I couldn't really taste. Definitely a recommendation if you also don't like oat milk in it but want a vegan or lactose-free alternative!

Jade Sword Green Tea 3,90€

While I'm not sure if it was brewed with 80°C hot water instead of boiling one how green tea is supposed to be prepared, it had a mild and fruity aroma and was quite delicious, much better than the cheap one you get at regular cafés.
